Luca Fornaro (CREI Junior Researcher, UPF Adjunct Professor and Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professor)
Luca Fornaro is Adjunct Professor of Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Affiliated Professor at the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics as well as Junior Researcher at CREI and Research Affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research. His primary research interests lie in the fields of macroeconomics and monetary economics. Professor Fornaro has conducted research on the role, scope and effects of macroeconomic policies in the presence of market frictions and liquidity traps. The connection between capital inflows and economic performance has been another topic addressed in his research. During his visit to VGSE in November 2019, he teaches a PhD course on “Topics in International Macroeconomics”.

Paul Heidhues is a Professor of Economics at the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics. He is a behavioural economist and a lot of his recent work has been focused on Industrial Organisation and Competition Policy. Among other things, his work explores the markets where firms offer credit contracts which exploit consumers' behavioural tendencies and investigates the implications of such behaviour in consumer-protection regulation. He teaches a PhD course at VGSE in October 2019 on "Behavioural Industrial Organisation".

David Dorn is Professor of Economics at the University of Zurich and Affiliated Professor at the UBS International Center of Economics in Society. He is a macroeconomist and especially interested in the effects of globalization and technological innovation on labor markets. Professor Dorn has also studied inequality and polarization in society and in his research he connects the fields of labor economics, international trade, economic geography, and macroeconomics. He teaches a PhD course at VGSE on “Trade, Technology and Labor Markets” in the Summer Semester 2019.

Bruno Biais is Professor of Finance at HEC Paris. His research focus is on market microstructure, corporate finance and contract theory. Prof. Biais has studied how market design affects welfare and which measures could improve market efficiency. In addition, his research focuses on bank lending when asymmetric information between firms and banks exist. He studies how such asymmetries can lead to market failure and which measures prevent such failures. He teaches a PhD course at VGSE on "Corporate Finance Theory" in January 2019.

Prof. Stefania Albanesi is Professor of Economics at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a macroeconomist whose research interests include the determinants and implications of various dimensions of inequality and the distributional implications of government policies. Prof. Albanesi has studied the political economy of inflation, the optimal taxation of capital and labor income, and the evolution of gender disparities in labor market outcomes. She teaches a PhD course on "Consumer Credit and Macroeconomics".

Prof. Volker Nocke is a Professor of Economics and the Chair in Microeconomics at the Department of Economics, University of Mannheim. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics. Prof. Nocke has held positions of Professor and Visiting Scholar at prestigious institutions like the University of Oxford, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is currently the co-editor of the Journal of Economic Theory, Research Associate at the National Bureau of Econimic Research (NBER), Member of the Council of the European Economic Association (EEA) and a member of the Executive Committee of the European Association For Research In Industrial Economics (EARIE). Prof. Nocke is interested in Industrial Organization, International Trade and Applied Microeconomic Theory and has authored instrumental papers in these fields. He teaches an intensive PhD course at VGSE in October 2018 on Anti-Trust Economics, broadly focusing on Collusion, Horizontal Mergers and Vertical Relations.

Yongmin Chen is Professor of Economics at the University of Colorado Boulder. He holds a PhD in Economics from Boston University. Prof. Chen’s research lies in the area of industrial organization where he mainly focuses on problems in price theory, vertical contracting, consumer search, economics of innovation, antitrust, as well as law and economics. He is currently Managing Editor of the International Journal of Industrial Organization as well as Associate Editor of the RAND Journal of Economics. Prof. Chen teaches a PhD course in “Selected Topics in Industrial Organization” at VGSE in April 2018.

Josep Pijoan-Mas is an Associate Professor of Economics at CEMFI and a Research Fellow at CEPR. His research interests span household heterogeneity, inequality, growth (resource misallocation, structural change) and public finance (aggregate implications of fundamental tax reforms). Professor Pijoan-Mas has taught at several institutions including the University of Pennsylvania and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He has been a visiting scholar to the U.S. Federal Reserve. He teaches an intensive PhD course on “Heterogenous agents and Macroeconomics” at VGSE in May 2018.

Charles W. Calomiris is Henry Kaufman Professor of Financial Institutions at Columbia Business School. He is an expert in the areas of banking, corporate finance, financial history and monetary economics. Professor Calomiris has consulted banking regulatory reforms in multiple countries and served on many committees, including the Advisory Scientific Committee of the European Systemic Risk Board, the U.S. Congress’s International Financial Institution Advisory Commission, the Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee, and the Federal Reserve System’s Centennial Advisory Committee. He was the second OeNB visiting Professor at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics in June 2017 and October 2017. In this capacity he taught a PhD course titled "Disciplining or Protecting Bankers? Theory and Evidence" at VGSE.

Paul Mizen is a professor at the University of Nottingham, he is the first OeNB visiting professor at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics. He is a leading expert in monetary policy and his research interests span monetary economics, corporate finance and central banking. Professor Mizen has taught at numerous institutions, including the European University Institute in Florence and Princeton University. He has been a visiting scholar to the U.S. Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, among other institutions. Professor Mizen visited Vienna during May 2016 to discuss with staff at the OeNB, to give public lectures, and to teach an intensive PhD course on “Challenges in the Implementation of Monetary Policy after the Financial Crises”.

Yuya Takahashi is an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University. He received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2010 and worked at the University of Mannheim. His research area lies in Industrial Organization, Applied Econometrics and Labor Economics. He will visit the VGSE from May 30 until June 10 and will hold an intensive course for PhD students on “Numerical and Empirical Methods in Applied Microeconomics”.

He held the two interesting lectures "Auction Theory" and "Auctions and Experiments" as well as a presentation on his paper "Political economy field experiments become possible" in the Micro Research Seminar.

Anton Korinek is Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins University. He received his PhD from Columbia University in 2007 and worked at the University of Maryland. His area of expertise is international finance and macroeconomics. His research area lies in capital controls and macro-prudential regulation as policy instruments to reduce the risk of future financial crises. He investigates the global spillover effects of such policy measures as well as their implications for income inequality. He will visit the VGSE from 14.12. to 23.12. and hold an intensive course for PhD students on "Imperfect Capital Markets in Macroeconomics and International Finance".

Jacob Goeree is the head ofthe ESEI center for Market Design at the University of Zurich and President of the Economic Science Association. His research interests lie in mechanism design (including practical auction and market design, political science, social networks and social learning, bounded rationality) and in experimental economics. In April 2015 he held the course "Auctions and Mechanism Design" which created great interest.

Taisuke Otsu from LSE (London School of Economics) helds his lecture on topics in Microeconometrics in October 2013 at the new building of the faculty at Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1, 1090 Vienna. Prior to his position at LSE he was an associate professor at Cowles Foundation and Department of Economics at Yale University. His research interest lie in Empirical likelihood, Nonparametric and seminparametric methods, and Microeconometrics.

Dov Samet is the incumbent of the Louise Lea Flack Chair in Game Theory and Interactive Decisions at The Leon Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration at Tel Aviv University. He visited VGSE in November/December 2013, and held a two week lecture on "Foundations of differential information in economics and game theory". In addition, he presented his research in the Micro Research Seminar on 4.12., at VGSE and in the Vienna Joint Economics Seminar on 5.12., at the IHS.

Thomas Lubik is group vice president for macroeconomics and financial economics in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. His research interests focus on Monetary Policy, Search and Matching, Indeterminacy, Open Economy Macroeconomics, and Bayesian Estimation. He gave a lecture on "Empirical Macroeconomics: Models and Methods" in May 2013.

Clemens Puppe holds the Chair of Economic Theory at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology. He specializes in microeconomic theory, in particular decision theory and social choice theory.
